What other kind of small animals can live with a rat other than another rat?

I just got a blue dumbo rat and now i feel bad cause she was living with her 4 sisters. My mom doesnt really like rats so she decided that i could only get one. She seems lonely do you know of any small animals that can live with rats? Wouls a Degus work? Thank You Your answer will really help. I meen like another rodent not a cat or dog i meen a real companion were they can live together.

no. as long as your rat is getting love and attention it should be happy! i wouldn't worry about it. all of my rodents lived by themselves and they were perfectly happy!
I think you really need to talk your mum into letting you get another rat and soon, the younger they are introduced the better. Rats are very social animals and you shouldn't keep just one, she will be lonely. If she'd let you have a Degus surely you can talk her into letting you have another rat, whats the difference! rats are lovely.
a rat must live with a rat. if you put another rodent in that isnt a rat it will attack and possibly kill it. just sneak to the pet shop and get another rat.
Noooo!! Where rodents are concerned, they should not be mixed!!! Rats stay with rats, degus stay with degus, mice stay with mice etc. Degus and rats will not get on at all and may fight to the death. DO NOT MIX SPECIES UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE COMPATIBLE!!

Rats can be kept with other rats only. You can not mix species. Different animals require different diets. Even a degu or a mouse would be inappropriate. If you could not get 2 rats, you shouldn't have gotten any. Rats kept alone can develop aggressive or neurotic behavior. Some rats will even become ill from loneliness or depression. In severe cases, rats have even been known to self-mutilate. Rats are extremely social creatures and it is cruel to keep them singly. How would you like it if some huge gorilla adopted you, took you from your brothers and sisters, and then never let you see another human again?
no. no other animals can go with a rat. just try to get yur mom to get you another rat or youll little ratty will be very lonley
you cant mix rodents! they WILL fight and chances are theyll fight until one dies. you also CANT KEEP A RAT ALONE! if you cant get more than one rat, dont get one at all! if youre not allowed another rat, get rid of the one you have. it is so unfair keeping it alone! i getting so fucking annoyed with all the irresponsible idiots on here keeping animals alone, or trying to breed things they know nothing about, or trying to mix different species. what is wrong with you people?!?!! i think animal protection services should start coming on YA and they find loads of animals needing help!
