- Esther, platypus are not the only mammals who lay eggs. There are five species of monotremes, the platypus and 4 species of Echidnae that all lay eggs. Here are some more: Pandas are not bears, they are related to the raccoon. A group of rats is called a mischief. A group of crows is called a murder. Toucans can do backflips. The original name for the butterfly was 'flutterby'. Only female reindeer have horns in the winter, which means Santa's reindeer are all girls. Polar bears actually have black skin and clear hairs, they are also ALL left-handed. Elephants are the only mammals who can't jump, but they CAN swim for miles! Kangaroos can not walk backwards The largest invertebrate animal in the world is the Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, or Colossal Squid. They have the largest eyes of any animal on earth, and since the largest specimen found was a 10 meter long male, which are smaller than females, no one really knows how big they can get.
